I discovered quickly that I was not meant to be an Army helicopter pilot after a stint in Viet Nam. When I returned I followed in my families footsteps and devoted myself to a caeer as an artist. To finance my art school I worked, like many still do today, as a picture framer. Unlike most that eventualy move on to more lucrative careers I stayed in framing discovering that the development of my artistic talents added to my expertice as a framer. I had the ability to help others in making wise and educated decisions regarding their preservation and decorating reuqirements of their documents and works of art.

| In a Newport gallery and frame shop, our best customer was the, "Preservation Society". That connection made one very aware of the meaning of, "conservation." Historic phoos, paintingsm documents and all manner of objects were framed every week, there seemed an endless supply. We occationally restored frames of more value than the pictures they surrounded. |

| Most enjoyable in framing are original pieces of art by well known artists, names anyone knows who has studied art history. I once had a collector so nervous about the suite of beautiful Renoir lithographs he had , that he would not let them out his sight. We ordered the frames and called him to return with the artwork. When he returned we fitted them while he watched every move. |
